This is the final shot for a recent shoot with Derek Fidler behind the wheel of his BMW M3. The idea was to capture a sense of mystery while also emphasizing the pure intensity Derek has been known to show while driving. Below is a series of behind-the-scenes shots from this shoot. As you can see, the lighting got a little complicated here. I started off with no lights, then one by one added very focused small light sources here and there to paint Derek with highlights, making sure to leave enough shadow to give the portrait a mysterious element. I think the total got up to around 9 lights — including one voice-activated-light (ala david hobby style) laying down in the back seat.
